✏️ Brain Booster
Imagine you are watching a TV show, but you have to leave before it is over.
You will probably remember more of what happened if you go back and watch the rest of the episode than if you watched it all at once.
This is an example of the Zeigarnik effect.
Bluma Zeigarnik, a Russian scientist, was the first person to notice the Zeigarnik Effect in the 1920s. She noticed that workers in a restaurant were more likely to remember orders that hadn't been served yet than orders that had already been served.
Why It Matters:
The Zeigarnik Effect says that it's easy to forget what we've already completed as opposed to the things are still incomplete.
So, if you've done a lot of work for a customer, it's likely that they won't remember all the things you've done. And instead, they will think about the things that are still uncertain. So you get the unexpected email, "Hey, we're leaving. Not seeing enough value."

🤓 Post-Sale Breakdown
Duolingo, a popular language learning app, uses the Zeigarnik Effect to retain users.
By doing so:
They create a sense of unfinished business that motivates users to log in and learn on a regular basis. This helps to keep users engaged with the app and prevents them from abandoning their language learning goals.
Duolingo has used this effect effectively to create a language learning app that is both engaging and motivating.

So let’s steal a few things we could do with our customers from Duolingo when working with them and building our success plans.
A few key questions you could ask yourself. Moving forward:
How can I remind my customers of the things we’ve always accomplished so that they don’t forget the value of me and our time together? Can I display the success plan as the first thing they see and show where we’ve made progress and where the work still needs to be done?
How can I create a sense of “incomplete” tasks to keep them engaged and coming back for more?
How can I display this visually?
Takeaway:
The Zeigarnik Effect is a fascinating phenomenon that has a number of applications in our everyday lives. By understanding how it works, we can use it to our advantage to improve our customers’ motivation, and productivity in wanting to work with us.
